April 18, 2006 marked the 100th anniversary of the San Francisco Earthquake. As part of the Bay Area Alliance to commemorate this anniversary, Stanford offered a variety of talks and activities involving departments across the university. Clay researched materials contained in Stanford's university archives and designed a commemoration website that complimented a special university exhibit. He also designed outreach projects for the School of Earth Sciences.

Clay published a print version of the campus walking tour in a special 1906 US Geological Survey publication.
